During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, it was announced that Switch 2 will make use of Game-key cards in addition to game cards. Game-key cards differ in that they don’t contain the full game data, and instead, the game-key card is your “key” to downloading the full game to your system via the internet. Once downloaded,  you can play the game by inserting the game-key card into your system and starting it up like a standard physical game card.

There was some confusion as to if this meant the Game-key cards meant the games would be locked to one account, but Nintendo has clarified that this is not the case. Game-key cards can function like a traditional card and be lent to friends and family to play and enjoy. The user will need to have the Game-key card inserted into the Switch 2 to play the game even though the content is downloaded, but this method acts as a far more consumer friendly version of Code in box games seen on previous systems.

What do you think of this?
