With the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy getting its second entry soon, many have wondered about the chances of other Final Fantasy remakes, specifically of the title that directly preceded Cloud’s game. However, if a recent interview is any indication, we should not hold our breath. In a recent interview with French YouTuber Julien Chièze, Yoshinori Kitase, a longtime director and producer of the series,  revealed that if Square Enix were to remake Final Fantasy VI, he believes it would take double the amount of time than the Final Fantasy VII Remake project.

Kitase says this is because he would anticipate the game being even bigger than FF VII’s remake. After all, the game already has so many characters in it. course, this does not rule out an HD-2D style remake, but it seems we should not get our hopes up for it to receive the same treatment the seventh entry is getting.

Kitase was a director on Final Fantasy VI when it was released on the SNES in 1994 so would likely be involved in any such project in some way. That said, Square Enix did update Final Fantasy VI as part of the Pixel Remaster series, which features updated visuals and sound plus improved gameplay with a modernized UI, auto-battle options, boost features such as switching off random encounters and adjusting experience gained multipliers between 0 and 4, and more. It is available on all platforms now so there are many avenues of playing the classic.
