Back in 2021, SEGA announced its intention to create a “Super Game”, which was targeting a release in 2026. It was described as a “major title” that would scale globally, aim to stand on “head and shoulders” above normal titles, and was able to attract the “entire gaming ecosystem” – from players and streamers, to viewers.
Well, we can stop looking forward to this game as according to Sega Sammy’s latest financial results presentation, it appears this project has now been officially cancelled. In the latest lot of presentation slides, there is confirmation that a decision has been made to cancel this project, and that there were apparently “no additional costs associated with the cancellation”.
The reason for the decision comes from the recent performance of the company’s free-to-play and games-as-a-service titles, with the company specifically calling out Sonic Rumble Party, and its “weak performance”. As such, the plan is to now shift this focus, with “lowered priority of F2P” development.

This being said,, Sega has reconfirmed its still on track reviving multiple classic franchises such as Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
