An unannounced Romancing SaGa game may have just been revealed through a Brazilian ratings board, with Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United receiving an official classification for multiple platforms.
The Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security has rated Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. While Square Enix has yet to officially announce the game, the rating provides the first substantial indication that the title is in development.
The name itself is particularly interesting. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United strongly suggests a connection to Romancing SaGa 3, although exactly what form that connection takes remains unclear. The most obvious possibility is another remake in the same vein as Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, which completely rebuilt the classic RPG with modern visuals and gameplay systems while retaining the foundation of the original.
That would make a Romancing SaGa 3 remake a fairly natural next step for Square Enix. The original Romancing SaGa 3 was released in Japan in 1995 before eventually receiving an HD remaster worldwide in 2019, but a full modern remake would give the third entry the same treatment that Romancing SaGa 2 received.
For now, however, the remake theory remains just that. Neither Square Enix nor any of its development partners has announced Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, and the Brazilian classification does not reveal what kind of game it actually is.
The timing does make the discovery particularly interesting. Tokyo Game Show 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 17 through September 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, and Square Enix is no stranger to using major showcases and events to reveal new projects. With Tokyo Game Show approaching, there is at least a plausible opportunity for Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United to finally be unveiled.
There are also several major presentations expected in the weeks leading up to the event, including two State of Play broadcasts this week and a potential Nintendo Direct , any of which could provide a stage for a new Romancing SaGa announcement.
Until Square Enix says otherwise, though, the Brazilian rating is the only official evidence we have that Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United exists. If it does turn out to be a full remake of Romancing SaGa 3, it would give one of the series’ most beloved entries the same modern revival that Romancing SaGa 2 received.
