Fans of Shmups and the Sega Saturn rejoice as the Sega Saturn classic Radiant Silvergun has received a new fan patch that brings it closer to the features of its modern-day ports. Alex “trap15” Marshall developed the patch over the course of a year, which adds in the Ikaruga-style chain scoring system that was present in the Xbox 360 and modern-day ports of the game. Marshall has also added a “Special” scoring system which mixes up the original game’s system with the one from Ikaruga.

If that was not enough, Marshall also added a two-button playstyle, something that had previously been exclusive to the arcade version of the game running on Sega’s ST-V Titan board. This mode contains only  three weapons, rather than the seven that are in the original version. Other features of the patch include the ability to access the Option+ menu right from the start.

While this still lacks HD visuals obviously, this patch otherwise makes the Saturn version of the game the most feature-complete version on the market.
