City Connection has announced that R-TYPE DX: Music Encore will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Switch, and Steam on April 30.
R-TYPE DX: Music Encore is a port of R-TYPE DX, and features the series’ origins, R-TYPE and R-TYPE II, plus the special “Ultimate Challenge” mode allowing consecutive playthroughs of both games.
In the year 220X, humanity made first contact with extraterrestrial life.
The encounter was not one of peace—but with a hostile biomechanical force from another dimension known as the Bydo.
Driven by hatred and destruction, the Bydo threatened the very survival of civilization.
In response, humanity deployed the R-9 fighter equipped with its ultimate weapon, the Force. Thus began the First Bydo Mission—R-TYPE.
After a fierce war, the Bydo appeared to be eradicated. But the battle was not over.
Escaping into another dimension, the Bydo rebuilt their strength and tore open reality once again. The Second Bydo Mission—R-TYPE II—had begun.
R-TYPE DX: Music Encore allows players to fight through both missions in succession in the ultimate mode, Ultimate Challenge.
For the first time, this mode features a complete soundtrack. Arcade-accurate stage themes have been newly implemented—including music for areas that originally shared tracks—recreating the authentic arcade experience using original handheld hardware sound.
The original versions of R-TYPE and R-TYPE II are also included, with selectable monochrome and color options in Classic mode.
Modern support features such as Rewind, Quick Save and Load, Full Power-Up Start, and Rapid Fire are available, along with detailed performance tracking.
