The Pokémon Company and TiM have announced that Pokémon Unite will be shut down in Belgium and the Netherlands on November 30, 2025. and will no longer be available to download on mobile or Switch after then.
Subscriptions and in-game items will not be available for purchase after October 31 and while no reason was given, mostly likely it is due to restrictions on loot boxes in both regions, which would affect the game. Pokémon Unite has a mechanic called the Prize Machine, which requires players to use in-game currency to receive cosmetic items. This in-game currency must be purchased with real money, however, leading to the situation at present.
Belgium has made loot boxes in gaming illegal under the country’s gambling law, and while gambling laws cannot regulate them in the Netherlands, the Dutch government announced in July 2023 that it was pursuing a loot box ban.
Other regions remain unaffected.
