The next PC-88 game to come to Nintendo Switch as part of D4 Enterprise’s Egg Console label will be System Sacom’s adventure RPG Märchen Veil, releasing on January 11th.

Märchen Veil Part I was first released in Japan in 1985 for the PC-8801mkIISR and focuses on the story of a young prince who overcomes several trials to win a tournament and the heart of a neighbouring princess, only to be transformed by an evil wizard into a hideous beast and sent to the ends of the Earth. The goal of the game is for the prince to find a cure and return home and players must guide the transformed prince through maze-like environments, collecting weapons and items, and battling slimes, mushrooms, and other odd-looking enemies. Notably, the game is played from an overhead top-down perspective similar to the Legend of Zeda but predates the first game by one year.

There was a second part released for the PC-8801mkIISR in 1986 that continued the prince’s journey. Both were ported to the Famicom Disk System in 1987.
