Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick has once again teased the possibility of the studio bringing back Eternal Darkness, the cult classic horror game originally released for the Nintendo GameCube.
Kick has previously made it clear that Eternal Darkness is a game he would love to see Nightdive work on. In an earlier interview, he explained that the title was high on his personal wishlist, noting that it had been “locked behind the GameCube/Nintendo wall” for years and that he would personally love to see it rereleased.
It seems that interest has not gone away. When recently asked whether he believes fans will ever see Eternal Darkness again, Kick offered a particularly intriguing response: “Eternal Darkness is one of my all-time favorites and it deserves the treatment I know Nightdive Studio is capable of. Keep your eye on our Deep Dives…”
While this is hardly confirmation of a remaster, the wording is enough to get fans wondering what Nightdive may have planned. The studio has built a reputation for reviving older games, while also being a strong supporter of Nintendo platforms.
Adding further fuel to the speculation, Nintendo has recently filed new trademarks for Eternal Darkness. That does not necessarily mean a new release is coming, but combined with Kick’s latest comments, it certainly makes the possibility more interesting.
Could Nightdive have reached some kind of agreement with Nintendo to bring Eternal Darkness back, potentially on the Switch 2? For now, that remains speculation, but Kick’s latest tease suggests that fans may want to keep a particularly close eye on Nightdive’s upcoming Deep Dives.
