Out of nowhere Red Dune Games and Blast Zero a Dutch developer has announced they are making an action platformer RPG based on the early 90s anime Samurai Pizza Cats. A light hearted parody of Japanese tokusatsu superhero shows like the Super Sentai series (Power Rangers) with anthropomorphic animal characters. It became a cult favorite with the 90s kids. Surprisingly only one video game was ever made from that franchise. The 1991 Famicom game Kyatto Ninden Teyandee released by Tecmo of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive fame. It is actually a decent little platformer worth checking out.

Now fast forward to 2025. What we have here is beautiful 2D side scrolling platformer RPG hybrid with cute and colorful characters that looks like it’ll do the source material justice.

It also has been confirmed the entire cast from both the Japanese original and English dub of the show will be reunited to do voice overs for the game!

English cast from left to right:

Sonja Ball (Polly Esther) Dean Hagopian ( Seymour “The Big Cheese”) Rick Jones (Speedy Cerviche) and Terrence Scammell returning as (Guido Anchovy, Narrator)

The trailer also features an impressive voice cast reunion from both the English and Japanese show.

The English cast includes Rick Jones (Speedy Cerviche), Sonja Ball (Polly Esther), Terrence Scammell (Guido Anchovy, Narrator) and Dean Hagopian returning as Seymour “The Big” Cheese.

The Japanese cast includes Kappei Yamaguchi (Yattarou), Ai Orikasa (Pururun), Ikuya Sawaki (Kitsunezuka Ko’on-no-Kami), Naoki Tatsuta (Karasu Gennarisai) and Kenyu Horiuchi (Narrator). Seiichirō Yamashita joins the cast as Sukashii, taking over the role from Jurota Kosugi, his senior at the same talent agency.

Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast From The Past will be available on all major platforms by 2026. It is currently in development. Here is the trailer.
