We have some new details about Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s new Virtua Fighter game thanks to a Famitsu interview and things are looking good.
Producer Riichirou Yamada has confirmed that the game will take place in the same world as the prior games in the franchise, saying:
“I think it’s important to follow up on the world of Virtua Fighter we’ve known up until now, so yes it’s the same world as the older Virtua Fighter games,”
“Also, we’re planning to make it so that by playing the new Virtua Fighter you’ll find out things about the previous games that weren’t necessarily apparent in them on their own,”
When asked about the game’s place in the timeline, Yamada noted this could not be revealed just yet and that RGG Studio will be keeping it secret for now, but did confirm that the location seen in the reveal trailer was not in Japan, but rather somewhere else.
When asked if Ring Outs are returning, Yamada said:
“I personally like ring outs, so I don’t think ring outs would be removed. Stages that have ring outs, stages that don’t, stages where certain conditions can lead to ring outs… That’s my vision. However, if the battle situation can change, then there might be some different cases. So in the teaser trailer, we tried to show that,”
Famitsu then asked if there could be battles that aren’t in the traditional 1v1 format that the series is so well known for, to which Yamada answered:
“I’ll leave that up to your imagination”
