At the launch of the Neo Geo launched in 1990, one title that gained a lot of attention was ADK’s Magician Lord, a take on the Ghouls ‘n Ghosts formula that saw the protagonist transforming into different characters. While the game has now come to modern systems thanks to releases like the Arcade Archives lineup, at the time Magician Lord was never ported to any other console unlike games like Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug. Things seem to be changing though, as the homebrew coder @Ryusennin aka Kaminarinom has produced a tech demo showing Magician Lord running on the SuperGrafx console, which was an enhanced version of the PC Engine / TG-16 that was released in Japan, only to fail commercially.
Currently, the demo lacks sound and only shows the main character, but the game does look astonishingly close to the Neo Geo version. In fact, in some ways it looks superior as the demo has multiple layers of parallax scrolling, while the original game only had two layers.
