During a recent live stream, HAMSTER revealed the next Namco title being released as part of this year’s “Namco Month” for Arcade Archives will be NebulasRay, the Namco shmup from 1994. This will be released on May 15 on Switch and PS4, and will be the first time the game has ever been published on a home console.

NebulasRay was designed by the future Tekken series director Masahiro Kimoto and Soul Calibur designer Yuji Yamamura, and also featured the involvement of the 3D pioneer Hiroshi Kuwabara, while containing sound and music from Takayuki Ishikawa and Masahiro Fukuzawa including sampled voices.

NebulasRay was developed for the Namco NB-1 System and used pre-rendered 3D sprites to give the player the illusion of depth. The story saw players jump behind the controls of a prototype fighter as a resistance fighter in an intergalactic war against a group calling themselves The Master Force, while the main objective of the game is to travel through six “areas”, blasting away the enemy’s forces, in an attempt to eliminate their army and bring peace back to the Austral star system.
