Before the Switch 2 was officially revealed, there were many leaks, some of which were confirmed by the reveal. One leak that Nintendo did tease in the reveal but did not confirm was that the Joy-Con’s would have some sort of mouse-like control thanks to optical censors. The reveal did show the Joy-Cons wrist strap connector-side down on the table zig-zagging across the screen, which strongly indicated that would be happening, and now a new patent has all but confirmed it.
In addition, other images show what to expect from the Pro controller for the system and that it too will have mouse functionality and be able to split in half.

Other details from the patent include:
- Ambient light sensor for the display like the Switch 1
- Has a touch display like the Switch 1
- Has a nine-axis motion sensor like the Wii U GamePad. This has better accuracy with much less need to calibrate
- Three-axis accelerometer
- Three-axis gyroscope
- Three-axis magnetometer
It will be interesting to see what Nintendo does with this functionality on the Switch and hopefully we will learn more at the Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025.
