Ron Gilbert is a legendary creator who worked on many classic games, including being one of the lead creators of the legendary Monkey Island series. Now he working on a new game that inspiration from the likes of Zelda, Diablo, and Thimbleweed Park. This new untitled RPG has been in development since the start of the year, with Gilbert posting regular updates on his Mastodon account.

The Terrible Toybox studio website states the game is “Best described as Classic Zelda meets Diablo meets Thimbleweed Park” And that it is “Coming late 2024 (or maybe early 2025, this is gamedev after all).”

The latest update on the game is that Elissa Black (Swords of Freeport, TownCraft, Metrocide, Objects in Space) has joined the team as a quest designer.

Gilbert stated: “This ups the chance by 37% that I’ll finish the game before becoming bored and disillusioned,”

This is not the first time Gilbert has worked on a game that combined elements of RPGs like Diablo with elements of the adventure games he worked on. He had previously worked on the DeathSpank trilogy of games that took influence of Monkey Island and Diablo. This new game adding in elements of classic Zelda to the mix is an interesting way, and we cannot wait to learn more about this.
