The Double Dragon DLC for River City Girls 2 does not just add Billy and Jimmy as characters, but fully gives them their own story interactions interwined with the main game. Billy and Jimmy will comment on situations and have their own unique insights and conversations and these are hilarious at times. Ye,s it can get a bit grating in some occasions but it actually feels unique and different and like you are getting a different experience this time around.
Billy and Jimmy both have a great moveset and combat is very intuitive, and it helps that WayForward previously worked on a Double Dragon game with Double Dragon Neon. It really needs to be said that WayForward has grown comfortable with the beat em up genre and this is evident with how advanced this feels compared to other beat em up DLC options. You are not just getting another character to run through the same stages with the same story playing out, but you will actually want to experience the story of Billy and Jimmy….if only they didnt sound like complete surfer dudes, but I guess that is part of the charm.
That is the thing as the WayForward writing style can be hit or miss and sometimes it just really gets irritating while other times it lands perfectly. Personally, I feel that while the writing can get a bit frustrating on occasion, overall, River City Girls 2’s Double Dragon DLC does provide more than enough to keep you engaged and wanting to replay the game over again. There is also the inclusion of new shops and other update changes that make the game feel fresh and overall, WayForward did a fantastic job here. Recommended.
