Cladun X3 is an interesting game in how it takes this idea to the next level.
Cladun X3 is all about customization, and that is with regard to everything, including how your weapons look, what your character model looks like, the music and more. This is a game about customization that truly pushes what the boundaries of player customization can be for an RPG. It is not an exaggeration that you can spend countless hours customizing the smallest thing in Cladun X3, and the game encourages this.
Cladun X3 comes with so many tools to help in customizing character stats, gameplay functions,music and appearance, but there is a bit of a tradeoff. These tools can be a bit intimidating at first because of how complex they are, but once you master them, you can really go all out with creating a game that is perfect for you. The music editor for instance, is one of the most in depth, and while it does explain its programming language well, can throw people off at first.
The actual gameplay sees you set up a character and explore dungeons, but here also there is a lot of freedom, because the dungeons can be explored in a variety of ways, such as rushing to the end or taking time to explore, and it will also depend on how you customize things. The goal is to gather equipment and items and take them back to the village, where they can be further customized, but the game gets a bit complicated in all the systems it sets up and may prove a bit frustrating for some.
The thing is though, the insane amount of customization, even as the difficulty ramps up, lets you really explore in your own way. For instance, you want to go past trees that are blocking your way? Step into an existing fire and run into the trees after. You will take significant damage, but you will also destroy the trees.
This is not just a solo experience either, as Cladun X3 not only lets you create new dungeons with a mystical map, but you can also upload and share these dungeons as well. You can also upload music and characters you create, and check out those made by others, which means you can experience an extreme amount of variety. Considering how unique each class and character can be, this means Cladun X3 has almost limitless potential for gameplay and innovation.
Cladun X3 is a game about games. The whole purpose is to customize the experience, and admittedly it can be frustrating to try and understand how everything works due to the complexity. But once you do understand it, you will find you will not want to stop playing, especially when you can check out content made by others.
If you want an action RPG that really lets you go all out with letting you tailor the game to your liking, then Cladun X3 is for you. If large complex systems are a bit overwhelming, however, then you may want to give this one a pass. That said, Cladun X3 is certainly a game that understands what hardcore RPG fanatics like.
