New games for older systems are nothing new these days, with the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, NES, Game Boy, Dreamcast and even the Neo Geo having an active scene. Now the Wii is getting in on the fun as well.

Metal Canary is a new shmup currently in the works for the Dreamcast, PC, and the Wii. Brazilian developer Nai Adventure revealed that the Wii version of Metal Canary was up-and-running in just 6 hours, but noted that there is still some work to be done, like getting the video player functioning and handling a few other issues.

Nai Adventure plans to release Metal Canary sometime in the second half of 2026, including physical releases for the Wii and Dreamcast, which will be available exclusively through Old Game, with more details on packaging and pricing to come later this year. The game will also see a Steam release for those not wanting to go the retro route.
