Masahiro Sakurai has released a new video on his YouTube channel today about Kid Icarus: Uprising, going over the game’s development and aspects such as the controls. Sakurai also again stated his desire to see a re-release but noted it would be difficult. though that would be “difficult”. Sakurai noted that the project began with the late president Satoru Iwata asking him to provide input about the 3DS’ specs and to create a game for the hardware, which led to him wanting to make something for the core audience and decided to go with a third-person shooter, while  Kid Icarus was chosen both due to fans desire for a new game and due to Pit’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Sakurai then noted that the controls in Kid Icarus: Uprising were not loved by everybody: “it’s a rather unique control scheme that takes some getting used to,” and “it’s a great way to feel in control of the action.” Sakurai also stated his wish that the team could have implemented full support for the Circle Pad Pro to allow dual analog controls, but the game was already pushing 3DS to its limits.

Sakurai then stated: “It’s a shame that it’s only lived on 3DS, as I’d love to play on a bigger screen with smoother graphics, but without a team around to work on it, crafting a follow-up seems difficult.”
