Halberd Studios announced today that their upcoming metroidvania Mariachi Legends is officially coming to Xbox with plans underway to release on PlayStation as well. Closing out the Latin American Games Showcase as the final reveal of the event, Halberd Studios–best known for their acclaimed debut title 9 Years of Shadows–released a new trailer confirming the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1|2, and PC via Steam in 2026.
As a brutal, pixel-art love letter to the original PlayStation- and Nintendo DS-era Castlevania games, Mariachi Legends asks the question: “What if Symphony of the Night took place in Mexico?” The new trailer features a stirring rendition of the folkloric song “La Llorona,” interpreted by Yatzil Aguirre. The renowned Mexican singer and voice actress, popular for her work in Disney’s Latin American dubs, brings an authentic vocal presence to the game’s cinematic tale of life and death.

In Mariachi Legends, players control Pablo Cruz, a detective who strikes a deal with Death herself. To avenge his parents and dismantle the crime syndicate encroaching on his hometown of Santa Mascota, Pablo is granted the power to transform into the mighty La Sombra. In exchange, he must deliver the one soul that eludes Madre Catrina: a man who defied her power to become immortal.
