Kirby Air Riders has its “Global Test Ride” event happening now on Switch 2, and using the demo, some have found some interesting details. Namely, Kirby Air Riders is using a new game engine from Bandai Namco called SOL-AVES.
Bandai Namco had previously mentioned that they’ve been working on a new game engine, but very little was said about it in the past few years. Bandai Namco has made use of other engines in the past such as as Unit and Unreal Engine, but now they seem to have completed their in-house engine SOL-AVES. The engine name appears in notices within the Kirby Air Riders demo itself, as well as on Bandai Namco’s web site, and on trademark notices filed by them.
Kirby Air Riders is the first title produced by Bandai Namco built with the SOL-AVES engine, and it will likely be the primary development engine going forward. It remains to be seen what kind of games this will be used for, but presumably many titles are planned.
