We are constantly learning more about retro games and one that has proven to have an interesting surprise is the Sega Saturn shoot em’ up,  Kingdom Grand Prix also known as Shippuu Mahou Daisakusen Kingdom-Grandprix in Japan. This was a title that combined shmup action with a racing theme and was developed for arcades in 1994 by Raizing. The game would be ported to Sega Saturn in 1996 by GAGA Communications bit never left Japan.

The interesting thing is that it seems the game was intended to leave Japan at one point, as Saturn translator Malenko has discovered that the Japanese version actually contains a full English language option, albeit one that needs some work to access. Malenko worked with  @memory_fallen, to create a patch that not enables the English option and also unlocks the game’s Shooting Mode option,. This normally requires a cheat code to activate which makes the patch very welcome. In addition, Malenko has created a patch that cleans up the notoriously bad ‘Engrish’ in the introduction sequence.

At the moment, the patches are exclusive to Patreons of Sega Saturn Shiro, but starting next week will be available to everyone.
