Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has just released on the Nintendo Switch, and is a significant upgrade over the original 2015 Wii U version. But there is a chance the game could be even better.

Modder Masagratordev has revealed on X has Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s executable has a hidden mode allowing it to reach 60 frames per second. That said, it seems that it doesn’t seem to work in full and players are not able to access it currently. Masagratordev noted that having it enabled “causes weird issues”.

There are some possibilities here, including that Monolith intended for the game to be 60 FPS but abandoned that for some reason. But there is another possibility, as Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be playable on Switch 2 via backwards compatibility, and Nintendo may be looking to boost the game’s performance and graphical quality on the new system.

As of now this is just a theory, but the existence of a 60fps mode does heavily suggest that it may be likely. Nintendo will be holding its Switch 2 direct on April 2nd, 2025, so we do not have long to wait to find out.
