Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. (Head Office: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Goichi Suda) is proud to announce that its all-new title, ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN, was revealed today, June 4, 2025, during the PlayStation® State of Play stream. This extremely ambitious action game is Grasshopper Manufacture’s first all-new IP in five years. It is scheduled to be released in 2026 on the PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, and Windows platforms).

The main feature of this game is its exhilarating style of “Bloody Action”. Swap between a wide range of different weapons, destroy your enemies, unleash wave after wave of splattering blood, and experience unmatched levels of violence and hyper-stimulating action. You can witness a small part of this awesomeness in the announcement trailer launched today. Also included in this release is a comment from the game’s general director/scenario writer/producer, Goichi Suda, which you can read below.

Super bloody action, crazy twists and turns to blow players’ minds, and a mess of old-school gimmicks – all rolled into one wild ride. About five seconds away from dying, our hero Romeo Stargazer becomes “Dead Man”, a dude stuck between life and death who ends up hunting space-time’s most wanted fugitives through multiple universes in this all-new title from Grasshopper Manufacture – GhM’s first new IP in years!

Our hero, Romeo Stargazer, is an FBI Space-Time special agent in a spiffy mask and garb called the “Dead Gear”. After the space-time continuum is shattered by a time paradox generated by a genius scientist just kinda screwing around, Romeo must hunt down the most-wanted fugitives in the universe as a man stuck between life and death, simultaneously both living and dead: “Dead Man”!

Romeo swaps between guns and swords, using his enemies’ own power against them to absolutely annihilate the evil hordes in this peak example of full-on “bloody action”, featuring ridiculously clever level design and white-hot battles, cathartic enough to collapse the universe itself!

Romeo’s search for these space-time fugitives ends up intertwining with his search for his suddenly missing girlfriend, the mysterious Juliet… You’ll just have to play the game to see how and if these mysteries turn out, but after all is said and done (and dead), will Romeo be able to see the tears of time?! Stay tuned!

Comment from General Director/Scenario Writer/Producer: Goichi Suda

Rounding up a little, Grasshopper Manufacture has been in the business of developing super-bloody action games for almost 30 years. Our latest, newly-announced title, ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN – abbreviated as “RomeDead”…? “RomeMan”…? Maybe just “IsA”…? I don’t know, we’ll figure that out later. Personally I think “IsA” sounds kinda cool. Just kidding. Anyway, we’ll set up a proper abbreviation for the title for social media later, so please be sure to help us make it a thing!

At this point, our development team is working at full force to get this thing finished. Back in the day, this would’ve been right around the time when staff members started bringing in sleeping bags to stay overnight in the studio, but nowadays we make sure that everyone gets enough time to rest and refresh properly. I’ll never forget the craziness of working all night in a frenzy back in our salad days, receiving warning mails for doing too much overtime (this actually happened). The final stage of game development is really similar to the world of the movie Beautiful Dreamer, like the night just before a big school festival. Man, it’s been awhile – now I want to watch Beautiful Dreamer again. What, you don’t know that movie…? I guess maybe a lot of you are a bit too young to remember it… It’s probably streaming somewhere, so check it out sometime.

Anyway, as for what’s good about this game… It’s all written out up above, so make sure to give it a good read! Romeo Is A Dead Man is scheduled for release in 2026, probably. Why “probably”? That’s kinda obvious, isn’t it? That One Game had its release date announced, right? Every publisher wants to make sure to steer clear of That One Game’s release date. But what if we were to flex a little and release it on the same day… Yeah, nope – just thinking about that is way too scary. Alright then, see you later.
