For the last few years, TheRoboZ (Andrea Baldiraghi) has been working bring Irem’s 1987 shmup to the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, the system it never came to. Progress has been shared for a while, but now a new development update is proving very interesting.
Specifically, the developer has revealed that this will not be a straight conversion at all. Mega R-Type will be an improved version with new content, such as a brand-new ship called the Middo. The Mido is a fighter that has been “overtaken and fused with the Bydo to become an organic weapon”, and will also showcase a new type of Force control.
