D4 Enterprise’s entry in its EGGCONSOLE series of retro reissues will be the MSX2 version of Dragon Slayer IV: The Drasle Family. The game will be heading to the Nintendo Switch on April 11th. Dragon Slayer IV was originally released back in Japan in 1987 for MSX and MSX2-compatible computers, and also saw a release on the Nintendo Famicom.
An outsider in the Dragon Slayer series emerges! Progress through the adventure by switching between family members with different abilities! Defeat the dragon
Released by Nihon Falcom in 1987, this action RPG marks the fourth installment in the “Dragon Slayer” series and was exclusively available for MSX and consumer versions.
The game revolves around adventuring from a home base with a family of varying abilities, searching dungeons for the four crowns, and face the final battle against Dillgios. Designed to suit the hardware features of the MSX, swiftly navigate through the dungeon, defeating monsters and bosses with agile controls.
Considered an outlier among the Dragon Slayer series by PC fans, however, the game includes elements that can delight fans, such as the appearance of the heroine “”Serena Princess’s illustration”” from another title in the “Dragon Slayer” series within the dungeons.
This is an opportunity to take on the challenge. There might be a chance to discover a new facet of the Dragon Slayer series. How about giving it a try?
*This application does not have a scene select mode.
*The main game and gallery screen (*Gallery) are in Japanese version.
*Other menu screens and “”How to play”” screens are in English.
*There are scenes with flashing screens, so if you feel any discomfort, please stop playing the game. Also, those who have experienced such symptoms should refrain from playing it.
What is interesting about this release is that the game is technically already on Nintendo Switch, namely the 1989 localization known as Legacy of the Wizard that Broderbund released for the NES, which is part of the Namco Museum Archive Vol. 2. So while this release will be in Japanese only, there is a localized version for those wanting the game in English, albeit a different version.
What is also notable is that Dragon Slayer IV will be the first MSX-related release distributed as part of the EGGCONSOLE series, as all of the previous entries were previously released for the PC-88 series of personal computers.
