When Nintendo showed off the Nintendo Switch 2, one thing that was highlighted was the Mouse Control options in the Joy-Con 2 controllers. Nintendo made a game to show off these controls, in Drag x Drive, but the game was a bit of a mixed bag. Still, the mouse controls are a fascinating idea and after some thinking, here are six games that Nintendo could make that would show off the mouse controls in interesting ways.
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Kid Icarus: Uprising was a beloved game for the Nintendo 3DS that saw a classic franchise return in a bold new way. It was a great experience, but the controls were sub-optimal and remain a sticking point all these years later. Many have wanted a remaster of the game in HD, but the controls would need to be vastly reworked. This is where the mouse controls come in, as the game could be reprogrammed to make use of the Switch 2’s mouse control options to get around the hurdles from the design of the 3DS game. Doing this would not only let the game live again, but would show immediate value in the mouse controls for many games.
Mario & Wario
Mario & Wario is a game not that many know about, as it was a Japan only Super Famicom Mouse game from GameFreak. The game saw you take control of a fairy guiding Mario through obstacles, after Wario stuck a bucket on his head. A new version would be a brilliant use of Switch 2’s mouse controls and would work like a Nintendo version of Lemmings, but with far more creative puzzles. The original game could also simply get translated and come to Nintendo Switch 2, and it would still be a great way to show off the mouse controls with a fun and unique game.
Super Mario Maker 3
While we are on the subject of Mario, the Super Mario Maker series would benefit greatly from the Switch 2’s mouse controls. The original on Wii U made full use of the stylus and touch screen, and the sequel on Nintendo Switch just could not match that, But a new entry with mouse controls, would enable players to once again be more creative when designing stages and really go all out with creativity. Alternatively, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Super Mario Maker 2 could be made that would add in mouse controls along with some new content, which would breathe new life into the game in a very big way,
Sin and Punishment
The Sin and Punishment series of on-rails action games from Treasure and Nintendo has always had a devoted fanbase, but the controls did bother many, especially those trying to play the Wii entry without a Wiimote ( which was an option). A new entry that uses mouse controls would have extremely precise movement that would work well for the game and would allow Nintendo and Treasure ( or whomever the two companies would bring on) to develop a new on-rails action experience that would feel intuitive and allow for some amazing action. It would also be a neat way to bring back the series, by giving it new gameplay mechanics, and not just rehashing old elements.
Another Code
The Another Code games are adventure games that started out as Point-and-Click adventure games on the Nintendo DS and Wii. The games were reworked for the Nintendo Switch remake, and the remake seems to have performed well. Considering the success of the Famicom Detective Club remakes inspired a new entry in that series, should Nintendo and Arc System Works follow up the Another Code remake on Switch 2, mouse control options just make sense. Many indie developers of point-and-click games are already taking note of the mouse control options, and a new point-and-click adventure made specifically for the system could be a great way to show off why mouse controls help the Switch 2 stand out in a good way
Warlocked
Okay getting a bit obscure for the last entry. Warlocked was a game for the Game Boy Color developed by Bits and published by Nintendo. I checked to make sure this was a Nintendo owned property, and once the information seemed to check out, it just made sense to include Warlocked. Why? Because Warlocked was an RTS game, and that genre works best with mouse controls. Warlocked was a cult hit on the Game Boy Color and a hidden gem as it only came out in North America, and a new version for the Switch 2 would be the perfect way to show off the mouse controls in a way that other games just could not match. You could take control of your forces using both mouse movement and button / analogue stick presses, and Nintendo and a development partner could find new ways to expand on the original game, while online multiplayer would just fit naturally and lend itself to a game that would stand out well.
And there we are. What do you all think? Would you check out these games if they were made to show off mouse controls on the Switch 2? Let us know!
