Voin is a game that caught my eye when it was first shown off. A first person Hack N Slash game that mixed in RPG and extraction elements? Well that was certainly something.  The game is out now in Early Access, but it very much feels like the game was released in too early a state for that.
This is not to say that Voin is bad game, far from it in fact. It just feels like there was not enough content ready and that some more time was needed. There is about two hours of content so far, and what content there is, is incredibly polished. The upgrade system is neat. and  and while the enemies are not challenging on their own, as they increase in number, it starts to actually provide some enjoyment and there is some great immersive content as well.
But then there are the other issues that bring the game down. The exploration is neat but does not offer any sense of reward and feels like style over substance, and some items and gear just feel useless at this time. The RPG elements in general are not fully fleshed out, and leveling up does not seem to make any sort of difference. The Boss fights are also extremely underwhelming, and that just felt like a let down after everything.
I think Voin has a ton of potential, but it is just too soon to really get it. There is a roadmap for future content, but I maintain that it was released too soon even for Early Access. I would avoid Voin for now, until more content is added, and elements are fleshed out and fixed, because there is clearly a lot of potential for a great game here, but it just is not there yet. Hopefully the developers take feedback to heart and improve the experience, because for the price being asked, Voin just does not feel worth it at this time.
It may look and sound great, but style can only get you so far, when there is no substance to back it up. Reworking the enemy behavior, fixing the bosses and making exploration more satisfying are things that need to happen. The RPG and extraction elements need to be re-balanced and fixed as well, because as currently implemented, the experience is lacking. If these issues are addressed though, then Voin could be a game that will make many people happy.
