Summer has arrived in DRAGON QUEST Smash/Grow, and Square Enix is celebrating with a brand-new limited-time event packed with seasonal rewards, new equipment, and an entirely new character progression system. The “Smash/Grow 2026 Watermelon Mania” event is now underway in the mobile roguelite RPG and will run through September 22, 2026, UTC.
The event gives players plenty of reasons to return to the battlefield, with Watermelon Chunks obtainable by clearing stages. These can be used to unlock new recipes and obtain or upgrade special event skills, while Watermelon Pips can be exchanged through the Swap Shop for exclusive summer-themed outfits, accessories, and other rewards.
Players can also pick up as many as 1,200 gems simply by logging into the game throughout the event and claiming the available daily login bonuses.
Among the biggest additions is the limited-time Scandalous Swimsuits ’26 Set, which brings a distinctly summery look to the game’s cast. The event also introduces the new Watermaul Wand, a powerful weapon that comes equipped with its own unique abilities.
The weapon’s Coup de Grâce, “Watermaul Typhoon,” unleashes powerful ocean winds around the enemy with the highest HP. The attack pulls nearby enemies into the storm before dealing magical wind damage, giving players a potent new way to control groups of opponents.
The Watermaul Wand also comes with the “Sea Spray” Enchantment. After sphere-type skills land a certain number of hits, the effect creates a wind-infused shockwave that damages enemies in the surrounding area.
The Scandalous Swimsuits ’26 Set will remain available until September 29, 2026, UTC, giving players a little extra time to collect the event-exclusive rewards after Watermelon Mania itself comes to an end.
The event also marks the debut of a major new progression feature in the form of the Memory Core system. Unlocking as players progress through Chapter 6 of the story quests, Memory Cores allow characters to become even more powerful by providing another layer of customization and progression.
Players can equip up to two Memory Cores on each character. New cores can be created using gold coins and Memory Points, with the latter obtained by trading in unwanted Memories. Players can also combine three Memory Cores of the same rank alongside gold coins to create a brand-new Memory Core.
With its combination of seasonal rewards, new equipment, additional progression options, and plenty of watermelon-themed festivities, the Watermelon Mania event gives DRAGON QUEST Smash/Grow players plenty to dive into over the coming weeks.
