Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is releasing on Nov. 14th, 2024, and will be followed by Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake in 2025. While Dragon Quest I obviously the first game released and was followed by II then II, Dragon Quest III is actually a prequel to the first to games, and those wanting to play in chronological order would be playing III, I and then II, which works out well for the game’s release. Some may want to wait and play them all in order of actual release, but doing the chronological order will lead to a special surprise.
Dragon Quest series’ creator Yuji Horii has said that players who tackle the remakes in the chronological order listed above will get to experience to a “new discovery” that will come as a “bit of a surprise.” Horii has added in some new elements to the experience, and in particular, those will be found towards the end of Dragon Quest II, but no specifics were given for the extra content.
Until then, you will just have to find a way to keep yourself occupied until Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake releases in 2025.
