Strictly Limited Games, in partnership with Atari, is bringing two classic 16-bit platformers back to physical shelves with new collector-focused editions of Mr. Nutz and Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad.
Pre-orders for both releases are now open as of August 21, 2026, with the physical editions scheduled to launch in Q1 2027. Each version will be priced at €49.99.

The original Mr. Nutz will receive physical releases for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in both PAL and NTSC formats, along with versions for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad will be released physically for the Genesis and Mega Drive.
Originally released during the height of the 16-bit platforming era, Mr. Nutz follows the adventures of Nutz, a fearless red squirrel who sets out to stop the evil Mr. Blizzard from freezing the planet. His journey takes him across colorful forests, dangerous caves, icy landscapes, and other imaginative locations filled with platforming challenges and hidden secrets.

The game combines traditional side-scrolling platforming with exploration and a colorful cartoon-inspired presentation, making it a notable example of the mascot-driven platformers that defined the era.
Alongside the original game, Strictly Limited is also bringing Mr. Nutz: Hoppin’ Mad back to physical form. The sequel has an interesting history, having originally been developed for the Amiga and planned for release on the Mega Drive under the name Mr. Nutz 2. It ultimately never received its intended release, making Hoppin’ Mad a particularly unusual part of the franchise’s history.
In Hoppin’ Mad, Nutz finds himself facing an invasion of mischievous Alien Chickens. The adventure features large levels connected by an explorable overworld, giving players more freedom to move between areas while taking on a variety of platforming challenges.

The two releases offer fans a chance to revisit a colorful piece of 16-bit gaming history while also preserving a lesser-known chapter of the Mr. Nutz series. Whether returning to the original adventure or discovering Hoppin’ Mad for the first time, retro gaming fans will soon have another opportunity to experience these classic platformers on their original-style hardware.
Both physical editions are available to pre-order now, with releases planned for Q1 2027.
