Chrono Trigger is a beloved title that fans have wanted to get a remaster or remake for decades, but while there have been touched-up re-releases here and there, Square Enix has not approached the idea of a remake or remaster, but there may be hope yet.

Yoshinori Kitase, the director of Chrono Trigger, recently appeared on the My Perfect Console podcast to discuss Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, other questions were asked as well, and Kitase himself brought up the topic of Chrono Trigger. Kitase asked podcast host Simon Parkin for his thoughts on how Square Enix should tackle a Chrono Trigger remake should the opportunity arise, saying they could do a straight port, a graphical remaster or a remake on a grand scale like Final Fantasy VII. Parkin noted that he would personally like something along the lines of what Nintendo did with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on Switch,  to which Kitase responded by thanking Parkin for his comments.

While this does not mean a remake or remaster is coming, it does give fans hope at long last.
