Recently NYC has been experiencing the rise of the cost of living due to NY governor Kathy Hochul’s new congestion pricing bill. Tolls and the price of public transportation have increased significantly during rush hour periods leaving many drivers and commuters frustrated. As a result less people are visiting the city now. This is now affecting many small businesses in NYC and unfortunately Brooklyn Video Games & Arcade is a casualty to these dark times. It was first opened back in 2021 by Esteban Sosa a huge video game fan and arcade enthusiast.

So why is Brooklyn Video Games a huge deal? After Chinatown Fair in Manhattan was sold to a new owner back in 2012 and turned it into a crane machine spot for kids it became the new home for the most hardcore competitive fighting game fans in the NYC area. Brooklyn Video Games is not only a video game shop. It is also a Japanese style arcade full of the sleek Sega Astro City and Blast City cabinets. All of the old school Capcom and SNK titles get loads of play time there. It’s really the last of it’s kind in NYC. Sure there are other arcades in NYC like the Barcade chain but Brooklyn Video Games is the only one that caters to the most hardcore gamer. Esteban Sosa has posted a GoFundMe so his spot would stay open for longer. If the goal isn’t reached by March the store will close down indefinitely.

Here is the link to the GoFundMe page. Feel free to donate to save this awesome spot.

Artpixels305 is also selling merch like tees and hoodies. Sales will go towards the funding of Brooklyn Video Games & Arcade.
