Hamster Corporation last week unveiled a big surprise during their Japanese language live stream on YouTube. They are planning to release their 2nd licensed Arcade Archives game on 12/26/2024 their time which is pretty much Christmas Day over here. This game is Banpresto and NMK’s  1992 Super Dimensional Fortress Macross arcade game. Loosely based on the 1984 movie “Macross: Do You Remember Me Love?” which ironically had its 40th anniversary back in the July.

The Macross arcade game is a 2 player co-op vertical scrolling space shooter similar to games from that era like Aero Fighters and Raiden. You play as either Ichiro Hikaru (Rick Hunter in Robotech) or Max Sterling shooting down the Zentraedi alien forces that are 10 times their size. If you are familiar with Macross and shame on you if you’re not if you even call yourself an anime fan you’d know what to expect. An intergalactic war with a pop idol singing in the background.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross from the Arcade Archives line will released on the Japanese Nintendo Switch eshop and the Japanese PS4/5 PSN on 12/26/2024.  No word yet if North America will get it on the digital marketplaces but knowing Harmony Gold who has been sitting on the Robotech brand for many years I would not even count on it. Thankfully its easy to make Japanese accounts and purchase digital cards from Play-Asia. Here is a Youtube video with gameplay below.
