Fortnite is a phenomenon in gaming and has grown beyond just being a game. Trailers for upcoming projects have been released through Fortnite and many have used the game to educate such as ‘March Through Time,’ an interactive exhibit that detailed the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. Now a new upcoming educational project will teach about one of the darkest times in history.

Developer Luc Bernard has worked with Epic Games to establish a Holocaust Museum within Fortnite to educate about the horrific events that occurred.  Bernard previously created The Light and the Darkness, a free historical game to educate about the Holocaust. Bernard has also noted that roughly 80 percent of people have never visited a Holocaust museum in real life, so creating a museum like this in Fortnite is a great way to give people a chance to learn about the events, and he hopes this digital Holocaust museum becomes a way to reach a younger audience and inform them on this tragic part of history.

Bernard talked about the upcoming launch on Twitter/X and attached to the post are images from Fortnite showing memorials and the content they have, including pieces on Kristallnach (The Night of Broken Glass), Abdol Hossein Sardari, The Holocaust in Greece, and The Jews of Tunisia., along with information next to the images.

The Jews of Tunisia exhibit image states:

“In June 1940, Tunisia became part of Vichy, France. Under Pétain’s collaborationist regime the Jews of Vichy Tunisia were subjected to the laws of Vichy, France.

As per a French and German document they were considered part of Europe relevant to the final solution of the Jewish question.

They were forced to wear the yellow badge (Star of David) and more than 5,000 were sent to forced labor camps. An additional 160 Jews of Tunisia living in France were sent to extermination camps.

Because of the distance from the Nazi camps in Central and Eastern Europe, they avoided the fate of Jews living in France due to the allies defeating Nazi Germany.”

Naturally there are concerns of trolls and racists and more trying to vandalize or ruin the experience but Bernard has assured that certain features will be removed in the museum.

“Emotes and destruction and no weapons are enabled in this map.

It’s more protected than even memorials where people take selfies.”

Bernard is working hard on this digital Holocaust museum,  and it should be launching sometime in the near future. When it is live, you will be able to access it by using the map code 4491-8501-3730.
