When it became clear that we’d be creating a spin-off game as a reward for our Kickstarter project backers, I was buzzing with excitement at the thought of getting to come back to world of The Wonderful 101 once again! The idea to focus on Luka’s heroic ventures not depicted in the main story, as well as making the experience a classic side-scrolling type of game completely different to The Wonderful 101 gameplay, both came out naturally. At the time we were brainstorming ideas for game, Yosuke Matsumura (who had just finished working on another project and had some free time on his hands) raised his hand and volunteered to be the director of this spin-off. He had no prior experience as a director, but as I always want to give a chance to creators who show enthusiasm, I decided to entrust him with the job. As we started to iron out the details of the game, Matsumura had the idea to go back in time to just a little earlier than the main story’s epilogue and depict how Luka became qualified as a full member of the CENTINELS.

Until then, I had vaguely considered just continuing the story from the end of The Wonderful 101 main story and depicting Luka’s subsequent adventures. However, I was convinced that Matsumura’s idea would certainly intertwine well with the main story and allow for a deeper portrayal of the hero, Luka (Wonder Goggles). We developed the storyline around this idea and as a result, I believe that we were able to create a new story that is as fun as the main story and suitable for the birth of a new hero.

The game was also developed within a limited time frame, with all the staff in a small team working together with passion and enjoying the exchange of ideas, resulting in the creation of a unique experience for players and fans. Although the game is relatively small in size and lacks the “flashiness” of high-end game experiences, The Wonderful One: After School Hero is jam-packed with attention to detail and delivers a great challenge to even hardcore players! We’ve also included a lot of features that give great replay value and let the players enjoy it in a variety of ways. We hope you will enjoy this unique experience as much as the other PlatinumGames titles. If you’ve yet to play The Wonderful 101: Remastered, I hope you’ll take this opportunity to go hands-on with this game as well.
