Inti-Creates is not known for this style of game, so it is surprising to see an attempt to reskin Suika Game, with the new title PuzzMix and give it a connection to its Azure Striker Gunvolt series. That being said, there is something here that makes this game stand out. While most of the gameplay is the same as its inspiration, PuzzMix has a different take on its physics that actually helps set it apart from Suika Game.
Everything here is a little bouncier and twitchier, and you have to pay a lot more attention to not only where things fall, but also anticipate how the slightest action can affect things. Just you think you have the pieces where you want them, the twitchy nature of the game can throw things all out of place and cause you to need to react quickly. PuzzMix feels a lot more unpredictable as a result, and one other gameplay difference is that any pieces that spill out of the top of the box will leave you with five seconds to get it back in before your game is over.
Another neat though is that you can unlock more music tracks to listen to during gameplay by doing well in the game, with the music being connected to the Azure Striker Gunvolt series. Otherwise, a lot of what made Suika Game work is also here, but admittedly that may not be enough for some to want to try PuzzMix out. Yes, it is a faster paced and more unpredictable game compared to Suika Game, but if you are satisfied with Suika Game, which is getting new features as well, that may be enough for you.
Still, PuzzMix has some interesting things going for it, so if you ever get the urge for Suika Game but faster and more chaotic, this is the game for you to try.
