Nintendo has been giving the Mario RPG games a bit of a resurgence recently with a remake of Super Mario RPG and an upcoming Remake/Remaster of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door but it seems they may be looking to do more.
Nintendo has been sending a new survey out to some newsletter subscribers about Mario’s various RPG titles, incuding questions about familiarity and interest in Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and notably Mario & Luigi. No mention was made of new installments, but the survey is aiming to gather information on how familiar fans are with these series
Nintendo hasn’t done much with the Mario & Luigi series lately, with the last entry being Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey in 2018, a remake of the Nintendo DS title that had new content added. Before that, in 2015 there was Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam which was the last original game in the series.
Mario & Luigi developer AlphaDream declared bankruptcy back in 2019, which put the series on hold, but this could be a sign Nintendo is interested in bringing it back, as well as expanding on Super Mario RPG with new entries or returning to the classic style of Paper Mario in future entries.
