Princess Peach Showtime! is the latest spinoff of the Super Mario series and is the second game to focus on the lady herself, Princess Peach. Nintendo has released a demo for players to try part of the early stages of the game, and after spending time with it, we can say this will indeed be a game to enjoy.

The demo shows the opening cinematics and setup for the game, and some initial stages as mentioned, and introduces us to the transformation mechanics that Princess Peach Showtime! has, and the experience is interesting. While the initial combat with Peach feels a bit too easy, once Peach gets her transformations, the game really kicks into gear in terms of creativity and gameplay. For instance, Swordfighter Peach has more depth than was expected, and Patissier Peach’s gameplay can actually be a bit challenging if you are trying to accomplish everything. So those worried that this is just a wacky collection of offbeat minigames can relax, because there is actual depth here.

To go into more detail, Swordfighter Peach has a dodge mechanic that works similarly to Bayonetta’s Witch Time, and this is actually a key to defeating certain enemies. Patissier Peach’s level seems simple at first but does add in some challenges for completionists that will throw off some players. I was worried that Princess Peach Showtime! was going to be a bit too easy for older players, but the demo has made me realize there is actually a good balance between easiness for younger players and challenging moments for experienced players. This meant a lot to me because my niece and nephew are now at the ages where they want to try games and this will make for a perfect experience for them that I can also enjoy.

There are also plenty of secrets for completionists to find, and some that will no doubt require repeated playthroughs if you are not paying proper attention the first time. Far from being a simplistic platformer, Princess Peach Showtime!’s demo has shown that the game will have plenty on offer and that the transformation mechanic will make the levels distinct and fun. I am eager to play more when the full game comes out, but for now, the demo will have to tide everyone over.
