Square Enix’s Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has surpassed one million combined shipments and digital sales worldwide, marking a significant achievement for the long-running RPG franchise. The remake’s success is particularly notable for the series, as it is the first SaGa title to reach the milestone since SaGa Frontier in 1997.
Released in October 2024, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven reimagines the original 1993 RPG with fully 3D environments, updated turn-based combat, and a generation-spanning story in which players lead the Empire of Avalon against the Seven Heroes. Its free-form scenario system also allows players to influence the adventure through their decisions, including the order in which they tackle objectives and the succession of emperors across generations.
The remake initially launched for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam before arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in July 2025 and Xbox Series X|S in September of the same year. Its availability across multiple platforms has helped bring the classic RPG to a wider audience, introducing more players to one of the SaGa franchise’s most distinctive entries.
The milestone arrives as Square Enix prepares to revisit another entry in the series. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a remake of the 1995 RPG, is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
With Revenge of the Seven reaching a sales milestone the franchise has not seen in nearly three decades, the remake has given Square Enix another reason to bring its classic role-playing games to modern audiences ahead of the next major SaGa release.
