Retroware has released a new trailer for Toxic Crusaders, its upcoming beat-’em-up based on the animated series inspired by Troma Entertainment’s cult classic The Toxic Avenger. The game still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, but the Philadelphia-based publisher and developer says it is coming “soon.”

The new trailer showcases the Toxic Crusaders battling Dr. Killemoff and his army of Radiation Rangers across 10 stages inspired by Troma’s outrageous world. Players will be able to choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, Headbanger, Major Disaster, Yvonne, Nozone, Junkyard, and Mrs. Junko, as they take on the forces of Smogula.

Designed as a throwback to classic arcade beat-’em-ups, Toxic Crusaders will support local co-op for up to four players, allowing friends to team up and fight their way through colourful pixel-art environments. The game also features an original story that continues the narrative of the 1991 Toxic Crusaders animated series, which ran for just one season.

With its cast of mutated heroes, over-the-top action, and trademark Troma humour, Toxic Crusaders aims to bring the franchise’s distinctive brand of radioactive mayhem to a new generation of players. A release date has yet to be announced, though Retroware says the game is coming soon.
