Cities: Skylines is getting a substantial upgrade on Nintendo Switch 2, with Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media announcing Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition for the new console on October 28.
The award-winning city-building game has been optimized for Nintendo Switch 2 with improved visuals and performance, alongside expanded construction tools and several new features designed to give players more control over their cities. The Expanded Edition will be available for $49/£41.49/€49.
One of the biggest additions is the ability to build across 25 tiles, a significant increase over the original Switch version’s nine-tile limit. Players will also be able to use a new Map Editor to create and customize landscapes before beginning construction, while updated precision placement, distance indicators, and snapping options should make it easier to get buildings and infrastructure exactly where they need to go.
The Expanded Edition also introduces an Environmental Controls Panel that lets players adjust elements such as the time of day, rain, fog, and environmental colouring in real time. A Quick Selection Tool is included as well, allowing mayors to switch between important tools and assets more quickly while managing their growing cities.
Players can choose between two graphics options depending on whether they prefer performance or visual fidelity. The Performance option targets 60 FPS with upscaling and adjusted quality settings, while the Quality option targets 30 FPS with a greater emphasis on visuals. Keyboard and mouse support is also included alongside traditional controller controls.
The Expanded Edition comes with 10 pieces of additional content, including the After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, and Sunset Harbor expansions, as well as Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, Carols, Candles & Candy, and Match Day.
There is also a loyalty discount for existing players. Those who already own Cities: Skylines on Nintendo Switch will be eligible for a 70% discount on the Expanded Edition, with the offer available from October 28, 2026 through April 28, 2027.
Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t the only platform getting new Cities: Skylines content, as PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players will also receive two new Content Creator Packs and a new radio station on October 28.
Holiday Getaways from Tomas13TO adds luxury getaway destinations, vacation spots, and holiday parks, while Mansions & Manors from Feindbold introduces an “old money” residential zone featuring large estates, elegant service buildings, and luxury residential vehicles.
Meanwhile, Blueprint Beats Radio adds 16 tracks blending lo-fi hip-hop, jazzy chillhop, and down-tempo music for players looking for a more relaxed soundtrack while designing their cities.
The two Content Creator Packs will cost $5.99/£4.99/€5.99 each, while Blueprint Beats Radio will cost $3.99/£2.99/€3.99. Players can also purchase all three as part of the Estates & Escapes Bundle for $12.99/£10.99/€12.99.
