SUNSOFT is bringing another batch of retro favourites to modern platforms with SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection 2, a collection of four classic titles coming to PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via Steam on December 17.
The collection brings together games originally released during the 1980s, ranging from well-known releases to more obscure titles from SUNSOFT’s catalogue. Players will also have access to newly added save and rewind features, making it easier to revisit some of the notoriously challenging games without having to start over from scratch.
SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection 2 will be available digitally on PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC. Physical editions will also be released for PlayStation 5 and Switch in Japan, alongside a Collector’s Box.
The collection includes Super Arabian, SUNSOFT’s first home console game, which originally launched in 1985. The action game follows a hero attempting to rescue a kidnapped princess while collecting Magic Jars and defeating enemies. Taking out multiple enemies at once allows the hero to transform into the invincible Super Arabian.
Ikki is also included, bringing its two-player action to the collection. Originally released in the 1980s, the game follows farmer Gonbe as he rebels against the heavy taxes imposed on his village. Players must collect gold coins and rice balls while attempting to capture the local magistrate.
The Mystery of Atlantis challenges players to explore a mysterious island that suddenly emerges from the sea while searching for a missing master. The action game features 100 stages and is known for its considerable difficulty, with the new save and rewind functions offering some assistance to anyone looking to finally make it through the adventure.
Rounding out the collection is Maharaja, a 1989 adventure RPG and one of SUNSOFT’s lesser-known releases. After discovering a mysterious wooden box while travelling through India, the protagonist becomes involved in a conflict surrounding the king Maharaja that could ultimately determine the fate of the world.
The collection also features a Gallery Mode containing rare materials from the original games, including concept artwork, promotional flyers, and other archival material.
