Metroid Ravenous could be one of the smoothest 2D entries in the series yet. The newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 title is set to launch on January 28, 2027, and its official eShop listing reveals that it will support a 120Hz mode.

Exactly how the 120Hz mode will affect the game’s presentation remains unclear, including whether players will have to make any visual compromises to take advantage of it or whether additional graphics modes will be available. Still, the possibility of playing a 2D Metroid game at up to 120Hz is an intriguing prospect for Switch 2 owners.

Metroid Ravenous will see Samus Aran embark on an all-new adventure after her ship crash lands on a moon and she is ambushed by a mysterious group of assassins. Severely wounded, Samus must explore an underground world, acquire new abilities, and find a way back to the surface while five Space Ninjas pursue her throughout the labyrinthine environment. The game will also feature one-on-one battles against the assassins, putting Samus up close against their powerful weaponry.

The game will launch alongside a Metroid Ravenous amiibo lineup featuring individual Samus and Chozo Statue figures. A third Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo will be included with the Special Edition, which also comes with the game and a steel game case. Both the standard and Special Editions launch on January 28, 2027, with pre-orders beginning today.
