Capcom has unveiled a brand-new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override during Gamescom Opening Night Live, giving fans the first extended look at the upcoming action platformer. The new footage showcases several of the game’s new gameplay mechanics, introduces new bosses and playable characters, and offers a glimpse at what players can expect from the latest mainline entry in the classic Mega Man series.
Set to launch in 2027, Mega Man: Dual Override will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
One of the biggest reveals in the new trailer is the return of Proto Man as a playable character. Joining Mega Man in the fight, Proto Man brings his own unique abilities and playstyle, giving players two different ways to approach the game’s challenges.
The trailer also introduces the new Override system, which allows Mega Man and Proto Man to temporarily push their abilities beyond their normal limits. However, using the system comes with a drawback. Once the Override effect ends, the player’s performance will temporarily decrease, meaning players will need to carefully consider when to activate the ability and how best to take advantage of its increased power.
Players will also be able to customise both characters through the new Custom Chip system. Custom Chips can be equipped to provide additional abilities and allow players to tailor their characters to their preferred playstyle. Among the abilities shown are rapid-fire attacks, a protective shield bubble, hovering and more. Different combinations of chips can be experimented with to create unique approaches to the game’s challenges.
The trailer also introduces Twinkle Girl, one of eight new Robot Masters that players will face throughout Mega Man: Dual Override. As her name suggests, Twinkle Girl uses firework-themed attacks during battle, giving Mega Man another new opponent to overcome. Defeating Robot Masters will once again allow players to acquire their abilities and turn them into powerful special weapons.
Those weapons will provide more than just additional firepower, however, as players will need to manage their energy carefully when using them. The new trailer provides a look at one of the game’s special weapons, which features a powerful charge attack that can also be used as an aerial dash to give players additional mobility.
Longtime Mega Man fans may also have spotted a familiar face in the trailer. Astro Man, originally introduced in Mega Man 8, briefly appears in the footage, raising questions about whether other classic Robot Masters could make their return in Mega Man: Dual Override. Capcom has yet to reveal whether Astro Man and potentially other familiar characters will play a larger role in the game.
Mega Man: Dual Override is currently available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Capcom is expected to reveal more information about the game ahead of its 2027 release.
