In SEGA’s recent financial results presentation last year, the company noted that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sold over 1 million copies. While that sounds great, additional information has been made known and it sees SEGA is not happy with the performance. SEGA executive Koichi Fukazawa even stated that the “initial performance did not meet our expectations”.

All is not lost for the series though as SEGA hopes for another million copies within the fiscal year. To achieve this, SEGA intends to give the title further support, which includes additional DLC and updates.

“Now, I’d like to talk about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. It has received high ratings, scoring over 80 on Metascore at Metacritic and earning an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam’s customer reviews.

We recently announced that worldwide cumulative sales have surpassed 1 million units. However, initial performance did not meet our expectations, and we are aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year. We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title including ongoing release of additional downloadable content.”
