OnceLost Games has released a new devlog going into detail about its upcoming title The Wayward Realms. The game has gone through some challenges recently with the death of one of the minds behind the project, Julian Lefay, along with tech issues relating to Unreal Engine 5. Still, the studio has a lot to show off and has come a long way. The devlog covers not only the setbacks OnceLost Games has encountered, but also the solutions the studio has found, and what they are working on, such as the magic system and more.
We’re keeping it real with you today.
🎯 Development on The Wayward Realms hasn’t been without its challenges, and we want to be upfront about where we are. Recently, we made a significant shift in our workflow to prioritize building systems that are lighter on processing power and smaller in data space. That means the graphics aren’t where we want them to be yet—and we’re okay with that for now.
In this update, we’re diving into:
🗺️ World Scale – The tech behind our massive world
💬 Dialogue Systems – How conversations are unique and varied every time
⚔️ Combat- And how defeat can alter your personal story arc
👥 Mass Crowd Ability – Bringing cities to life with population simulation
We’re wrapping up on building out our solid and strong system foundation. Strong systems now mean a smoother, more polished experience later. After all, we want to create The Grand RPG we’ve all been dreaming of.
