Fan games based on The Legend of Zelda series are not uncommon, and some have been truly creative, and he Legend of Zelda: Dungeons of Infinity looks to be one of the more interesting ones.

Fan-dev Justin Bohemier spent 4 years making the game, which is inspired by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, using Gamemaker Studios from scratch and the result is a very different type of Zelda game. What we have with the game is a procedurally-generated roguelike experience. Players will work their way through procedurally-generated dungeons in order to track down and defeat Aghanim, and find all sorts of weapons, items and treasures along the way.

As this is a Roguelike, every time you jump into the game, there will be a different layout and no two dungeons will be the same. For instance,  items will be in different spots, enemies will completely change location and so on. And of course, death means you will need to start over again from the beginning.

While Justin Bohemier used Gamemaker Studio and did not make a Romhack, the game does use the original assets from A Link to the Past, meaning there is a risk Nintendo will take it down. Hopefully though, the game will still be able to be found if that is the case, or perhaps Bohemeir could return to the project with a fresh art style.
