Castlevania is a beloved series that has inspired numerous other games over the years. That being said, these games tend to be inspired by the 2D entries like the NES games and the MetroidVanias, while the 3D entries tend to be ignored by the fans and developers.

One game that is looking to change that is Holy Sword Studio with its project Night Hazard,  a game promoting itself as a “love letter” to  the divisive 3D titles in the series, like Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness, Lament of Innocence, and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.

Indie developer \Unholy_Malphas of Holy Sword Studio, recently took to Twitter/X to share a short video of the game. While doing so, a request was made for Castlevania fans to help spread the news of their game.  The footage shows a heavy influence from the N64 Castlevania games in terms of visuals and level design, with gameplay that is closer to Curse of Darkness and has a combat system akin to a hack ‘n’ slash platformer with upgrades.

Night Hazard is set in a dying and tormented world and tasks players with becoming the Unholy Knight Malphas, an unforeseen savior who must face the unimaginable horrors that have usurped humanity and now command the realm. Exploring the dark and twisted land, with an armoury of different weapons at your disposal, you’ll find yourself fighting skulls, imps, and undead knights, while also uncovering unsettling NPCs and secrets hiding behind breakable walls.

You can wishlist the game now on Steam, and the developer anticipates launching in late 2026 at the earliest.
